i was wondering how long is the lifespan of a glass aquarium. ive had one for about 6 months now and looking to upgrade to an acrylic because of leaks. right now there is no leak on mine. and does acrylic leak or is it like one piece with no silicone?

Not sure. But i know of a 75gallon tank that has been running for 30+ years and never had a leak.

also can you guys tell me when you usually have to repair a leak by yourself because if i had to do that i would rather get a new one

If you get an aquarium built by a reputable builder, you won't have problems for a long time. This holds true for both acrylic and glass.

I Would imagine a well built aquarium would last many, many years. Wether it be glass or acrylic :)

I have a 50gal Hagen tank that has been in constant use for over 20 years now. I just cut out the inner beads last year (not the silicone that actually holds it together) because it was stained from prior use of malachite green etc. but not because it leaked. If they are built right they can last a long time...

Burt:)

The stand is more important in preventing leaks. Either tank will last a very long time if properly cared for. Make sure the stand is level and the top has no high spots. Stress on the tank will either make it leak or just let go over time.
