Glass Bangers - Craziest Cichlid Thread

Hi everyone,

I have recently witnessed my first glass banger, i.e Cichlids that try and attack you through the glass.

The one doing it to me all the time now is my Herichthys Carpintis. The guy is nuts, truly crazy. He never stays still and as a consequence is the only cichlid still sleeping in his little area when the light comes on, sometimes for 20 minutes while all the others are a wake. I think he literally exhausts himself, he cannot relax.

Even when I feed him he is going crazy at me, trying to bite me when I go near and chasing my hand when I clean inside the tank.

He has grown from half an inch to near enough 6 inch now since May. He is turning into a big guy and fast.

So tell me what your current glass banger is, or what has been? Maybe even what you think will be in the future?

Had a 12" male midas that was great for that everyone that would stop by loved that fish. Passed on 2 weeks ago choked on a dempsey couldnt swallow it and couldn't regurgitate it on account of the dempseys dorsal spines. Bad way to go out..
 
About 3 inches in hindsight the JD should have never been in there but they lived together fine up till that point
 
I once learned the hard way with a Jag. Though he was no bigger than his tankmates ( 5"-7" ) his mouth was huge. He didn't consume my jack but he choked on it for a long time. That's when I bought a 5th tank just for 2 jags....120g LOL

Sucks both died right?
 
Yep lost 2 fish in one shot
 
just made a post about my rosequeen about a week back. noticed her trying to bite me through the glass. i opened the lid up and she charged leaping out of the tank hitting me in the face and landing on the carpet. we were both fine.:)
 
No longer have this fish but he was a glass banger.

Lol my Festae was smaller back then but always tried to put the Dovii in his place when he was acting up.

Nice, I remember seeing this on you tube a while back. I did not know he was yours although I do remember you mentioning your crazy Dovii. Pretty much the same way mine is acting these days. Slamming into the glass pretty much all day long.
