I have a 135g Oceanic tank and need to replace one or both of the glass canopies. The tank has a thick glass center brace that measures 21 1/2" wide. The tank is 72" long.. The one canopy that's on there now measures 6" for the front panel and 8 3/4" for the rear and 35 1/2" long. This overlaps onto the glass brace in the middle.

Do I NEED to buy the same size canopy for the other side? Will a smaller size that doesnt overlap onto the brace suffice?

I was also unable to find the exact same size panels at dr's or that pet place.. Ideas, Comments are welcome, thanks!

The tank you are describing sounds like an Oceanic tank... if that helps... (I have one also)

If the glass canopy rests on the endge of the tank on one side and on the glass center brace on the other side... it will work fine but will have the potential to slip off the side resting on the edge of the tank... Therefore this solution will work as well as you can guard it from slipping off the edge and falling into the tank.

Getting glass cut from a glass shop is a much cheaper/easier option than most people give it credit for... especially if you have the hinge from the old canopy (although this can also be purchased).
