The markings are not new but this week they have gotten even worse. I'm watching over my friends tank for the week, so its his catfish. At first it was a few spots but now the entire backbone of the fish is covered with it. It looks like its inside the fish, and the other two glass cats haven't gotten whatever it is.

I was reading it can be due to old age or illness? Anyone have this happen to their glass cats?

Just a side note, I did a 60% tank change on the tank today just to be safe. Everyone seems to be happy & healthy besides the catfish. The tanks a 29 gallon & the other stock in his tank includes Danios, Rasboras, Kuhlis, a Betta & Otto cats.

I actually couldn't find any information on this. The spots were not patches or fungus, they were not on the outside of the body. They looked to be marks inside the body that blocked out the transparency of this fish, if that makes any sense. I should have taken a pic but didn't think about it.

Strange thing is the marks disappeared and the fish seems to be doing fine, though it didn't act strange & continued to eat regardless of the marks. Whatever it was never spread to the other cats or fish in the tank. I know he has also dosed the tank with melafix & pimafix as a precaution, so maybe that's what cured it.
