I recently bought a 125 on craigslist and found that it has a very small (1-2mm) chip on the inside of the back glass panel. It is hard to tell how deep it is, but I was wondering if it would need to be repaired and how I would do it?

I have filled the tank and it has no leaks, but to be cautious, would just putting a little silicone over it do the trick, or would I need to silicone a small square of glass or something over it?

You need to silicone a glass piece over it. Silicone will only make the crack spread out more

if it were me, I'd see how much it would be to get it epoxied by a windshield repair place (with good reviews). they put a vacuum over the chip area and force the epoxy in deep so it's holding on to every surface . then you can put a dab of silicone over it in case the epoxy isn't fish safe.
when it's done right, you can hardly see it when you know where to look, but I've had my windshield done once by a crappy place, and it was as bad as not having it done at all.
they do have kits to do it yourself, but I don't know if the results are as good.

Hello; I go along with this at this point. The glass over the spot should also help reinforce the corner a bit. I would likely consider a glass patch considerably larger than the chipped area. Without pictures it is a multiple guess on the part of forum members giving advice. Do you have the option of returning the tank and getting the money back?

I got a fantastic deal on the tank and this is a pretty small problem. It is not on a corner, just in the middle of the back pane of glass, so it really isn't a big issue. A small square of glass siliconed over the chip should be more than enough.
