We are building a 6000 gallon pond/tank to replace our 3000 gallon one. The pond/tank will be made of cinder block/poured concrete and will be 6' tall on one side. I'd love to put a large window (4' x 4') in that side. We have a 2' x 4' window in our current pond and it is 3/4 thick. I am having a tough time finding any info about tank glass for that big of a pond. The Baltimore Aquarium has a similar sized tank to the one we're building and they have 2" plexi in it. I'd rather use glass to avoid scratches. Any thoughts or ideas, please let me know.

As said, 3/4” tempered would be fine. You have to consider where the placement will be in the 6’ area of the pond. If the glass is placed low, as in 6’ water column above it, the pressure will be higher then if the glass is placed at the surface of the water with only 4ft max water column. Being a viewing window, the aquarium glass thickness calculators do not apply as the entire perimeter of the glass is supported by the concrete and there is no shear stress on the seams. This allows for thinner material to be used for a viewing windows.

I’d check to see the price difference between 1” and 3/4”. If it’s only 1-$300 may as well go thicker. I had a 300 gallon glass tank. It was 48x30x48” tall. Glass on it was 3/4”, ran for 15 years in a zoo then I picked it up and ran it with discus for 2. Never an issue.
