I'm setting up an older 90g tank next weekend that has no center brace but is made of very thick glass. I need to find/make a glass hood but all the ones I've found commercially leave a sizeable gap for a center brace. I'd like to get a local glass company to cut two pieces that I can hinge together myself by buying a hinge online. My question is, will a 48" strip of glass be secure running across a tank with no center brace? Or should I ask them to make two smaller lids that can go side by side, each being half the length of the tank? Also, is there a certain thickness/grade of glass that I need to ask for? Thanks!

make two small lids. or try to glue a brace onto the tank if possible. with that long of a piece of glass you will get flex.

48" should be fine, my 75g is like that, no center brace. i know Glasscages can make them for u

I emailed GlassCages, I'd have to get acrylic because I'd need it delivered, and they said they couldn't do it-- too much bowing without a center brace. I might have to go local, I guess.

Okay I think I'm going to get a Perfecto 48x18 (which is actually two sections that total up to a width of 46.5 inches (leaving just a little over 1" gap in the middle) and I'll put a makeshift brace there. Great!
