I recently started a catfish tank but I thought it would be neat to throw in one glass knife. All my cats are peaceful so I don't think the knife would have any issues there. If anyone has or has kept a glass knife, I would really like to hear about your experience. Are they similar to caring for a BGK?

What catfish do you have? They are similar to caring for a BGK but they get bigger than the bgk. Glass knives get up to about 16" while BGKs max out at about 10 or 12"

From my understanding in the home aquarium BGKs can reach 18" but usually stay around 12". My little guy is only 3" right now so I guess we will see. :) I have pictus, jaguar cat, banjo cats, and a striped raphael. Do you think they would be good tank mates for a glass?

Not sure about the jaguar cat, but the rest should be fine...from what I hear jaguar cats are highly territorial. He may fight with your knife over a territory, so you may want to have lots of hiding places

I have a pleco that fights with my bgk over shelters but I resolved it by adding more shelters for both fish.

Glass Knives are actually smaller than BGK. While BGK can reach 20" in the wild, they average 14" in aquariums. Glass Knives grow to 12" but tend to be more around 8" They are best kept in groups so a single Glass Knife wouldn't fair well. Your best option is to get a BGK. The Jaguar Cat I'm assuming is Liosomadoras Oncinus? They can be predatory. And at 8"-10" a Jag Cat might try to take down a Glass Knife since they are thin.

Thanks for the info! I didn't know they preferred to be kept in groups. And i would hate for him to be taken down by my other fish. I'll scratch that idea for sure.

I have a Sydontis cat that was very territorial with my 7" BGK-enough so the Sydontis was relocated. I saw cat fish mouth sized marks on my BGK!

It also depends on how big the individuals are your putting together, say if the cat is tiny and the knife is bigger- no worries, but the other way around and I see an injured knife.
