I would like to know whick one I should use. I have some tanks that need lids an I will just be going down to the glass shop and having the cut me some inserts.

I want to know what I should use, Glass or Acrilic? Will one block the rays of my florescent ligths? And does it matter how thick they are?

Thanks

I say glass to save you the trouble. I used acrylic on my lids and they all started to bow.

glass as acrylic bows, horribly and fast.
I used 3/4 cell cast acrylic to build a top and within 3 days it bowed.

and just so you know why the acrylic bows, it will actually absorb some water, causing the side facing water to expand. its not actually drooping, its growing.
one time to prevent what i thought was drooping i placed eggcrate under the acrylic, well it still bowed, but the corners actually bowed up and away from the tank a good 2".

Glass it is then :D

Thanks for the responces guys. I will be getting thinner glass, pretty sure 3/16 came with the one tank I have and I never had a problem, until I dropped it. lol.

Thanks again.

i vote acrylic... a few extra strips on the edges keep it from bowing as well as allow it to "sit" in the opening... the best part is you can drop it all you want..

I have reinforced acrylic lids on my tanks and they are still bowed. If I remember correctly, they are 3/4".
