ive just sold my 7ft tank, and am looking into getting a bigger one say 8 x3x3, but wondering which material would be best, glass or acrylic?
ive just had a price on a acrylic for £2000, thats just the tank. does anyone know of anywhere in the uk that may be a bit cheaper?

Here's a sticky on the topic: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=78249

Acrylic is lighter (cheaper to ship and easier to move), a bit tougher (slightly less likely to fail catastrophically), and softer (easier to scratch). There are some differences in appearance and optics between the two as well, especially at greater thicknesses; I suggest you look at some examples of each variety up and running to see if the differences bother you. My larger tanks have all been acrylic, so I can't give you a personal recommendation.

thanks for the reply mate, i think ill go for the acrylic, i was a bit worried about my glass tank, as if it ever broke it wouldnt just be the fish i would have to replace, it would be all the carpets and other things. acrylic seems a safer bet.
