Greetings MFK!

I am in the beginning stages of planning my first plywood tank. I have my drawing plans. Next is the budget plans. I believe I have all the wood accounted for but I am unsure of the glass.
Inside tank dimensions will be 94.5" x W 36.5"D x 30"H. The viewing window will be 85" x 24". The tank will be framed similar to a house using 2x4's on three sides and around the front panel.

How much should the glass overlap the wood? An inch? Two inches? I know there needs to be sufficient room to apply the silicone, I just don't to go overboard and waste money on glass I don't need.

Thanks,
Mike

I usually do 2 inches but my next one will only 1.5

1.5 will be fine!

structurally 1" would be ok but the issue is getting enough sillicone down in that space.

what waterproofing method are you going with? im in the uk and fibreglass resin was cheapest for me and application is quicker as you do not need to wait for previous coats to dry before applying the next.

ooh id go with 3x6 timber at that volume of water. and use 4x4s for the corners and frame uprights

I'm not exactly sure yet on the water proofing. I'm still in the info gathering, drawing, budgeting phase. I think though if I frame it like a house with plenty of structural support along with 3/4" plywood I could just use fiberglass resin and top coat that with Sweetwater?
