Hello all,

It seems like the front left corner seam is coming apart on my tank. It's not leaking, but I see alot of air in there and it seems to be slowly peeling itself back. Attached are some pictures. The other side of the tank does not loook this bad.

I just want advice on if I should drain it. Or who thinks it will hold? :irked: Or am I just paranoid?

The dark outer section is full of loads of tiny bubbles. The lighter inner section looks to be peeling apart. The light section is coming into contact with the outer dark section in the center now. Also it's a 70G tank.

Thanks all!

Have a great day!

Hmmmm. If the innerseal (lighter blue section) is still intact and not broken I would assume it would be fine. I believe my 29 gallon is this way though, it's ancient. I'm resealing it. Let some others chime in though.

Thanks. This tank is ancient also. I know it's atleast 20-30yrs old. I'm just really unsure right now. I dont want 70G + my sump all over my click floors, and then seeping down to the finished basement....

Alright, it's getting drained.
Pulled the canopy and checked for bowing. It's bowed ATLEAST 1/4" in the center. It used to have a bow of 1-2mm.

She's showing her age. bigtime.

Ohwell. Time to look for a new tank.

yeah, if it is bowing more than normal, drain it.

given its age, it must be braceless and braceless tanks always have a slight bow.

but if the bow is getting bigger, thats bad.

Thanks. It's down now..... When I had originally set it up a couple years ago, only a couple mm of bowing in the center. Yes it was braceless.

I'm thinking next tank probably a 4 foot 120gallon or so.... Maybe i'll build a stand big enough to use the old 70 as a sump. Any ideas how to strengthen the old tank up without cutting it to pieces? What if I built a 2x4 frame all the way around the tank and do it top, middle, bottom. this way no corner could ever let go and blow out?. Obviously the sump goes under the stand, so I wouldn't mind framing around it, as I wouldn't have to stare at it all the time. Sump duty might render it half full at most.

Also now that it's empty, I could see the seams pulling back together.
