Yikes,

Yesterday my 10 inch O grabed my glass thermometer and broke it.

Fortunately the mercury part is was still intact.

However it could have turned out worse if he broke the mercury part.

Crazy fish!

Anyway I want something on my tank that is aesthetically pleasing and unbreakable. Not a big fan of the stick on types.

What about a good electronic digital thermometer?

Price isn't a big deal.

Thanks,

Greg

what is a jaguar heater ( I find my heater's settings are meaningless for what I end up getting).

But that reminds me might be time to get a heater guard on that thing in case he gets abusive with it like he has the therm.

When you say digital do you mean just that stick on strip or an actual electronic devise?

Yeah trying to avoid crap so that's why I'm asking the question.

It was a little scary seeing my O spit out a big piece of sharp glass. Thank god he wasn't hurt.

Any brand recomendations anyone?

Greg, glad to hear your oscar is turing out to be a destructive monster.

I still use those cheap glass thermometers too and have had several break. Maybe you could consider one of those stick on digitals, but put it on the side of the tank instead of the front so you don't always have to look at it but it's there when you need it.

Since your oscar likes to abuse your equipment, he may decided to yank the suction cup off of that digital thermometer, or worse, break the wire or pull the whole thing into the tank. I have a couple of those titanium heaters with a separate sensor and my cichlids are always yanking at it.

I'm pretty sure most aquarium thermometers no longer contain mercury. Was the liquid inside red or silver? If it was red, I think that's alcohol and silver is mercury.

At least 50% of the coralife digital ones I've owned have broken completely or become innacurate by at least 2 degrees. I wholeheartedly do not recommend them.
