Finally buying the glass for my new tank, final glass dims 525mm deep 1065mm long. Tank is 540mm deep and 1080mm long.

Front pane is framed with 2x4 inch timber also with a 30x30x4mm steel angle on the top. It can also be centre braced if I need to.

Will 10mm safety glass be enough or should I go for 12mm which is 50% extra cost.

There is no way the timber is gonna flex as when fat ass here stands on it there is no measurable flex.

Be safe and go with 12mm.

No it isn't, 10mm is on the borderline. It is generally suggested that tanks 18-24" tall use 1/2" or 12mm glass. You really do not want to cheap on on building your own tank. Do it right the first time.

I'm not saying you don't know what ur on about, but I'm having difficulty understanding why I need such thick glass on the ply build. My 56 inch tank which is also 20inch tall is only built with 8mm glass and is a braceless and rimless tank.
