Glass thickness how much????

So I've been thinking of getting a custom sized aquarium made of glass of dimensions 4ft long*1ft wide *1.5 ft tall . It will be euro braced.
Can it be made from 8mm glass? Or maybe 8mm sides with 10/12mm bottom. Cause in my area 10-12 mm glass cost have become almost twice due to the covid lock down and non availability of material .

Are standard 55 gallons not common in your area? You can get them for $55 at petsmart/Petco when the sales are on.

But to answer your question, most standard 55s (48x13x21) are made with 8mm glass sides, I'm not sure on the bottom. I would definitely go thick as possible on the bottom. I never order 10mm because it seems 12mm is always just a few dollars more.

If it's me and I getting a custom 48x12x18, I'm ordering all 12mm. But that's mostly cause thick glass excites me lol. Are you building this yourself?

I'm from India, we don't have stores like petsmart / petco here.
In India the tanks are all made locally by the lfs according to the customer's dimensions. We also lack large aquarium manufacturing professional companies like custom aquarium etc. (Planning to open an aquarium manufacturing company when I'm stable financially cause parents are against it)
Glass was readily available pre covid but due to lock down and the situation that India just came over , prices have shot up. The prices of all glasses have increased but the prices for 12mm has almost doubled and is also nit readily available.
