If I built a large plywood tank, and instead of the front being one big peice of glass, I made it Muntin style(muntins are the grids in windows), but instead of muntins I used 2x4's or whatever size needed, could I use thinner glass, or would that not even effect it because of the weight of the water behind the glass?

The glass would be thinner as you went up, but the lower panes would most likely be the same thickness.

ahhh... that makes sense

Speaking somewhat on this subject. Say 30" tall you would need 3/4" glass, width not needed. BUT what if you have the same height, but only 15" wide. Would the glass thickness need to be the same. How about 12" wide?
