Glass Tops? Are they OK?

Is it OK to use glass tops? Pros vs Cons? Do glass tops inhibit good gas exchange and oxygenation?

all mine have glass tops. there has to be gaps somewhere for filters and such. just cover those in eggcrate if you have jumpers.

they have been a longtime industry standard.... however i dont use them.. but thats simply due to my habbit of dropping them

The reason I ask is because they are frowned upon in saltwater. I've been out of the freshwater game for about 12 years, so I'm just wondering if anything has changed since then.

I prefer glass over plastic, I think it looks nicer and I can see my fish from above
