so i bougth a 40 gal breeder at petco $1 gallon sale now i have to spend $30 on lids. does any body no cheeper way? if i build a hood out ply wood will the moister eat it up what about the light will it short out? i also thought about getting plants that grow out the top. there is a sutherlands down the street that sell window pane glass prety cheap will that work?

plastic egg-crate lighting diffusers at Home Depot . . . cut to fit, let's light in, let's plants grow, and no need to ever clean the glass . . . it will allow more evaporation, but also keeps the tank cooler (if that matters)

A 40 breeder is 3 feet wide with no center brace. A piece of plexiglass would sag ALOT. Especially the thin stuff they sell at the home stores.

the egg-crate panels are sold in 46" x 22" panels . . . you can cut to fit a 40G breeder (36 x 18) and they do not sag . . . very functional

these are all good ideals i think the Lighting Panel will sag . i think i might try the egg crate.

Home Depot, Lowe's. Most hardware stores should have it.

Get the egg crate, it'll work for a lifetime and if you don't like it at least it's a top until you get glass ones.
