I am considering the purchase of a new Monster Fish Tank. 8 feet long, 500+ gallons. My question is, which is better, glass or acrylic? Which is least likely to have a seam fail? If you could choose, which way would you go, and why? THANKS!

I currently have an acrylic 125 gallon and I'm sad with it's appearance because of all the minor scratches. I bought the tank used and didn't take the time to properly buff it out because I was in a hurry to rehouse two O that needed a bigger tank. So with that said, I don't think I could be a very good opinion on glass vs acrylic because I'd say glass because of my situation. Of course I know many people that love their acrylic. After reading this thread, http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=392732 I'm sure if I took the proper time and wasn't in a hurry my tank would look gorgeous. (and still could if I was willing to move fish and break it down)

As far as lesser chances of seams failing? IMO most definitely acrylic. The material they use to mold the acrylic ends to each other liturally welds/bonds the two materials together as one.

IMO you are FAR, FAR less likely to get a seal failure with acrylic. I can't say I've ever even heard of someone having a seam failure with acrylic...

Well you know with all the technology I would love to see scratch resistant glass , Every tank I had over 30 yrs always eventually will have scrathes no matter how careful, so I do not think there is really one better than the other.

Less likely to have a seam failure with acrylic. That having been said acrylic is going to scratch and scuff exceptionally easy. Seam failures are extremely difficult to repair if not impossible with acrylic. Glass seams are usually fairly easy to reseal. It's also pretty hard to find an aged acrylic tank that still looks good.
My vote is for glass.

When dealing with tanks that size, acrylic is the way to go. Every glass tank I've seen over 450g leaks or has leaked and had to be repaired. Not only that, the weight of glass tank that size would be ridiculous.

250g or less, glass is fine. Over that, you'll hate yourself for not getting acrylic. If you're careful, you can keep it almost scratch-free.

I have both. Glass is cheaper and heavier and is more prone to breaks. Acrylic is lighter, clearer and is better insulated. It does scratch easier but repairs are pretty easy( I've even done them with water in the tank)

I having a 300 built and I'm going acrylic. For any tank that large I would definately go acrylic just based on weight and clarity alone.

acrylic for big tank, 1/3rd the weight (2 people can pick up my 500g acrylic) and they last forever without really worrying about silicone drying out. plus more insulated
