Alright, I'm cutting down my big tank. It's gonna be about 4 x 4 x 2 ft high. So I need a piece of glass that's about 4x2. How thick would it need to be and how much should I expect to pay for a piece that size? Should I get tempered glass? Thanks a loaddddddd for your help in advance.

I'm not sure about the thickness of the glass, there are wbsites that can help you. But I would not use tempered glass. If it breaks it will shatter into a cazillion pieces.

thanks for the quick help. I always thought people recommended tempered glass. It's a plywood tank so there's only gonna be the front view :D

glass thickness i would say atleast 3/4inch thicker the better and better safe than sorry

yeah, i was thinking 3/4 would be a good size to go with, it's about 200 gallons. Dimensions aren't exactly what you typically see, ahaha. Price range anyone?

for those that don't know this tempered glass is 4 times stronger than plate glass, so that piece of glass you have there is as strong as a 3 inch piece of plate glass. that's strong enough to put in a dolphin park.. build the tank of you dreams with that glass, because the glass will never break unless the tank itself can't hold the water....

that's why i want tempered glass

I used 1/2" tempered for my 8' x 3'. I like tempered because it's stronger, and it shatteres into millions of peices. Regular glass will normally just crack and give to time to drain the tank (or drain the tank on it's own), however if it does shatter, you have a bunch of flying daggers (much more dangerous). I'd rather clean up water than blood.
Just my $.02.

so a 1/2 inch piece would be enough?

price range on a piece for the size I'm looking for
