lot's o' questions!
1) what ismore important to determine glass thickness tank height or voulume?
2) is there a formula to determine glass thickness requirement?
3) where's a good place to get glass?
4) tempered? just glass pane? what?
5) standard sized that it comes in?
6) cost? per foot?

1)Height then length. Volume is irrelevant.
2)If there is, I don't know it.
3)I'll try to look up the place I had make mine and get back to you.
4)I used tempered for the extra strength and shatter properties.(If it fails, I want a million pieces instead of flying daggars so no one gets hurt too bad.
5)Don't know had it custom made.
6)$500 delivered for approx 8'x3' tempered with finnished edges.
Hope this helps.

so you only had one side of the tank with glass and the rest was ply or concrete?

how do you seal the glass to the box?
what do the finished edges do? just look pretty?

The glass is sealed to the box with silicone (10 tubes). The finnished edges were so that I didn't slice myself open or tear through the coating while installing the glass. Scroll down the diy and find "Some pics during construction of my 540". You can see almost the whole process there.
