I'm just curious...
I'm sure you've all seen the "modified" danios (i.e. glofish). A while ago, on the Discovery channel, I saw a show on the real Glowfish that had jellyfish genes spliced into them. They actually gave off light, and were not danios. They looked nothing like the glofish you see in stores now. Long story short, does any one FOR SURE know if these fish are 'modified', or are they dyed as I suspect? :bs:

You'd have to give me more info to work with. The original "glofish" are zebra danios spliced with GFP (green fluorescent protein) and will glow green under black light. The first type I saw in fish stores were zebra danios engineered to glow red under normal light.

Yes, Glofish are bioengineered, not dyed.

Not all "glofish" are zebra danios, the gene have slso been spliced into medakas and geisha girls

Glofish are also patented so it is illegal to breed them for re-sale. Owning a species...go figure.

that's good to hear. all we need are more people out there making/breeding these poor fish.

The jellyfish that glow are real.

Off topic, but while we're at it: Your bioluminescent jellies are not true jellyfish. Comb jellies are not cnidarians as they lack stinging nematocysts.
