They've been doing this for years with mice and rats. I didn't watch the clip, so I don't know if they explained it or not but they link the UV glowing to certain genes so that when there is a litter you can just throw them under a UV light to see if the offspring inherited the wanted gene or not without having to do all sorts of tests.

They come in green and red...
