I have had a GN Pleco for 17 days now. Yesterday I first noticed it has developed some white splotches on its skin. Eyes not sunken, belly not sunken and not bloated, it was moving around sucking on glass and rocks yesterday. I tried to catch him and photograph him yesterday, but it just got to be too much commotion--figured I was doing more harm than good chasing him all over the tank with a net. How do I tell if this is aggression from other fish, or some kind of fungus/bacterial infection?

Try to at least get a clear pic of the fish. The photo will be more helpful if the fish is in water. The affected area will be easier to see.

Best I could get with my iPhone. He's not looking too good.

Bump...

Pictus catfish. small clown loaches. BA Tetra's. Synspilum. Green Terror. Jack Dempsey. He sits under a log with a Pictus cat all day long, never seen the Pictus even notice eh's there. Of course, there's no telling what goes on after lights out.

Think he's dumb enough to be rasping himself against the bubble bars? or maybe it comes from the him laying against the heater at night? Don't rays do that?

Yep. He's that stupid. Splotches started fading away, I got a good look at his belly and it's not sunken, I was all happy about this fish. Then I see him nudged between the glass and the heater in the back of the tank today. So I shoo him out of there, he goes lay on a log, and he's got a nice new white splotch on his back behind his left eye where the heater was touching him. And he lays out in the light all day now, unlike what other people describe with their GNs. So, I think I got a half-wit. Maybe the splotches are temporary, cause they seem to go away after a day or two.
