I originally wanted to keep a group of Benthochromis Horii (Tricoti) with my Pim colony. The males get 9 inches or so and they are real stunners. After reading, I found they truly need to be in at least an 8 foot tank as adults to be happy so I scratched the idea...considering that I only have a 180.

I soon discovered Gnathochromis Permaxillaris are good tank mates with Frontosa and both species leave each other alone. Although they aren't flashy like Benthochromis they are fairly interesting little oddballs.

How many should be kept with a colony of 9-10 Frontosa? Maybe just a pair or a couple...or do they need groups. Please chime in if you have kept some Gnathos...they really seem interesting.

Bathybates seem fairly interesting too; however, maybe a little to manic for Fronts and might disrupt them.

I've kept fronts for years but haven't personally kept Gnathochromis. However, I've seen single gnathos with fronts and they seemed fine, active, mingling right in as they hoover up food, etc. I've also seen two or three gnathos in a tank and they also seemed okay with each other, but as I say I haven't kept them personally.

Eventually 9-10 adult fronts will be a bit much for a 180 imo, but if you're starting out with juvies you'd have plenty of time before crossing that bridge.

Yeah, I plan on most likely 6-8...right now I have 4 trios of WC Pims that are about 5 inches or so. I know by a couple more inches I will need to start adjusting and selling off some of the stock
