Gobioides broussonettii

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It's the only G.broussonettii in the tank!
I keep it with 1/1 Nandopsis tetracanthus, 2 Mastacembelus dayi and 1 Mastacembelus armatus favus (growout for the spiny eels).

Do you have plans of getting it into a brackish set up? These gobies can live a short while in freshwater but, this is an estuarial species that will demand increasing levels of salinity into the light brackish range of SG 1.005 to 1.008.
Despite the large mouth, this species is primarily a sand sifter and rock algae scraper, feeding on algae and the micro-invertebrates associated with coastal environments.

Hey,
maybe.
This specimen was caught in fw and has been kept in fw ever since.
I own it for about half a year now and can't see any negative changes in its well-being.
As soon as I notice anything concerning I luckily am able to move it into a brackish tank.
As far as I know this species moves between fresh, brackish and marine enviroments so taken good care of it should be able to live a healthy life in freshwater.

Indeed!
Although it's looking like a predator it won't harm small fish or shrimps.
It is not able to swallow big chunks of food so I am feeding it bloodworms, cut frozen fish and pellets.

I'm glad you finally got him in a brackish setup, as mentioned earlier the do best on sand, but what wasn't mentioned is why. The reason sand is prefered is that sometimes while eating they will swallow some substrate and if they swallow too much gravel it can cause impaction in the bowels. Also as mentioned earlier if you have a couple you get to see them puff up and display for one another at feeding time. It is one of the most fascinating things I've seen in the hobby. I started with one and someone saw I knew how to care for them and they had 2 to rehome so I ended up with 3 and was amazed the 1st time I fed all 3
