Earlier this weekend, I just picked up 3 Brochis multiradiatus and one "Horse Face Catfish." Upon seeing the Horse face, I believed it to be a Chrysichthys ornatus, but to my pleasant suprise (because I try to keep my fish South American), these catfish are Goeldiella eques. Anybody have any info on these little guys? Both the Brochis and the Goeldiella are wild caught, and I have not seen them eat yet, however the brochis dig in the sand and the goeldiella sucked in a sinking cichlid gold, but spit it back out. Im not too worried though, once they adjust I think they will eat!

saw one the other day. heafty price compaired to other cats of similar size. i'm wondering why the higher price for what appears to be a normal catfish. anyone care to elaborate?

Not sure, I have never seen them before, pretty rare compared to alot of other SA cats, and isnt a huge tank buster.

Very nice Goeldiella eques.Ive kept quite a few specimens over the years, came across a few only last year but havent seen any in years before that, they were regularly imported in the 80s.Really nice cats these and like you say often get confused with the African Bagrid Chrysichthys ornatus. The ones ive kept loved earthworms(night crawlers) but would also take chopped mussels, cockles etc, after a while they also took sinking pellets and tablet foods. This is a very peaceful species that will only eat fish that will fit into its rather large mouth, been a moderately sized fish its not a problem for most tanks housing oddball fish, expect about 8 to 9 inches for a fully grown individual.......watch the L. pictus,he could eat him now but will have no problems once hes 30 plus inches long.
Good luck with it!

Lovely fish. One of my favorites. Up there with Hemisoribum. I kept two for years. Would love to keep them again but never see them on price lists in the states. Congratulations. Very personable from my experience.
