I've been keeping Satanoperca since the mid 1980's and have in that time kept x Satanoperca acuticeps on 3 occasions. I read quite a few articles written by keepers of SA cichlids, and take on board most of what is written.
A week or so ago I collected 7 x 4 inch specimens of this species and put them into a 200 liter tank along with 6 3 inch Satanoperca daemon. They have a sand base in the tank.
Anyway the "facts", as told by other fish keepers, stated "these fish do not sift", period.
Not true says I, my S.acuticeps obviously haven't read the articles or books saying their not supposed to sift.
I feed my fish 4 times each day, and no matter what I feed them, they take the food from the tank base, chew it round their mouths, and spit out the sand or get rid of it via their gills, just like all the other Sifters - and I do have them all.
So here's a fact, all Satanoperca species are Sifters !!!
