pulling all of the gravel out my tank. 50lbs in a 55 is just too much. + my nitrates are still through the roof regarless of my efforts. i have done 3 10g w/c's per week (some times more) for 3 weeks to no avail. im only going to leave my oak leaves for substrate. i think that is more than enough.

just make sure you have sufficient bio filtration, because you substrate houses a lot of BB. taking out your gravel could cause an ammonia spike if your filtration isnt up to par

the filtration should be fine, i have had the two ac 70's running for a year each non stop. i think i may leave a very thin layer, but thats it.

For many years, I could never have imagined a bare-bottom tank. I still don't like the way they look, but they're SO EASY to clean and I feel better knowing that I don't have a cesspool in my tank. With a bb tank, you can still submerge sheets of colored acrylic to add some color to the bottom and place rocks and wood to break the monotony.
