I am going to go from Brackish to SW. How quickly should I increase the salinity? Do I need to change any / all of the water out?

The tank is currently running with chiclid salt in it. I have 4 monos and 2 GSPs. Its a 120 tank with an additional 20 gallons of water in the sump.

I've heard no more than .002 per week. I raised my tank to marine at this speed with no problems. The slower the better though.

That is rather slow. I guess it makes sense that it would take a while. It does completely change the environment the fish are living in.

Is the issue that the fish have trouble with faster changes in salinity, or that the bacteria will get killed off?

It's so the bacteria don't die. The fish are really quite tough, tougher than we give them credit for.

Yeah I've seen guppies go from an SG of 1.010 to pure freshwater without acclimation. The problem is that if you go too fast, the tank has to re-cycle.

My SG should be around 1.007 based on how much salt I have added (my meter starts at 1.01 so I'm not sure). My ammonia is up to .25 (its usually at 0). Should I stop adding salt until the ammonia drops back to zero, should I keep adding the cup in the morning and the evening untill I hit my target, or should I just add the salt faster at this point? I'm thinking I should add the salt faster now, since I probobly added the salt to fast and killed the bacteria. The new bacteria will be the saltwater variety anyways.

are you using chichlid salt to do brackish? if you are and you are you need to switch to a saltwater salt. and to go full salt you need to be running RO water or you will have algea problems. ive done it... the wrong way.
