Hey everyone. Been a while. Hope the MFK staff are doing well with the stupid ass Monster Energy and their crying. :screwy:

Considering going for a more natural look in the tank. Have black rocks as substrate now and would like to switch to sand. I do not have a place to put the little guys while I swap it out. Was wondering how safe it would be with sand flowing everywhere in the tank. Not the end of the world if I cannot make the switch but I just would prefer to have things be "normal" for them.

You're good to go with fish in the tank. If it makes you feel better to take them out just grab a couple buckets or Rubbermaid totes.

I did same with my shoal of piranhas, left em in tank, scooped out gravel with square net, washed sand threw in 5 gal bucket and used cup and scooped in one cup at a time, it helps if u bring cup close to bottom and then dump out so it doesn't stir up as bad, turn of all filters or w/e makes current till ur done.

I scooped gravel out then I drained 50% water and put sand in then fill up. Sub change and wc

Goodluck u will be so pleased with the change!

if your worried about the fish you could put them in a bucket while you switch.filters off,buy a new plastic dust pan, have a hole in the handle, scoop up gravel, draining water back in
