I have thinking for some time now as to how to make my fishroom environmentally friendly (also if it's cheaper less complaining from the other half!!) I have installed a central air system, operating only one air pump powering all my sponge filters. I have also been trying to figure out the best method for heating the room vs heating the tanks. I have put my lighting on a timer and was slowly switching to T8's.
A friend of mine has been playing with LEDs and has a good understanding of putting them together. My thought were to have them run off a battery that was being recharged by a solar panel. My end goal is to use both Solar and wind to power the whole room!!
Are their any suggestions on type of lighting, places to purchase lighting and ways to install it. My concerns are the fact that it will be installed in a rack setup in my fishroom so will heat be an issue. (I have seen heat sinks used so is heat a problem?) I will have 14 6' light assemblies and 3 3' assemblies. Would it be better to do them all in 3' lengths. I also want to have the system to be two stage (day/night).
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!
