I have an established hitech planted tank that I want to make into a low tech tank. I wouldn’t mind doing a dirt substrate but I already have fish, if the soil leaches ammonia will this be a problem since I have an established filter. Tank is 36g with an eheim 2217.

Switch over to a worm casting substrate

Never heard of that but it seems simple. I am keeping the sword from my current setup so I am worried about the massive root structure should I have to uproot it feels r some reason but I will read more about the casting tonight. Thanks

are you breaking down the current setup or trying to move things into another setup or whats you plan? Personally I would just remove/replace the plants that wouldn't do well in low tech and keep everything else the same (removing the co2 and higher lighting of course)
