all,

I am thinking of making my new-used 120g tank rimless. I have been searching and been finding smaller tanks ( 5g-75g ) doing it and being pretty safe, but I am wondering how safe it would be for a 120g???

Here are some pics if it helps :

How much support could the rim really be giving the tank?

And would it be possible to take out the center glass support? Its pretty ugly so I am thinking either take it out or have it replaced....

Thanks for the feedback.

If the tank is not level I have ended up having tanks bowing and breaking the support beam. This is with the top rim still attached. Hopefully nothing bad happens....

the rim doesn't really add much structurally but keep that center brace. The manufacturer has most likely calculated the safety factor of the tank using the center brace. Much larger tanks can also be made rimless but the glass thickness is always beefed up to compensate.

What are the dimensions on this tank? It looks more like a 90g.

Or is it a 5' 120?

So, if I can't take the braces off can I move them down a bit and still be ok? After taking the rim off, I noticed :

1) the braces, are not flush with the sides. So now it just kinda looks funny.

2) some edges seem to be a bit jagged, what would be the best thing to do?

Thanks!
