Hi
I have a Male dollar sunfish who is about 3 inches now outside in a 44 inch diameter "pond" he lives in peace with rosy red shiners.

I wanted to add 2 females an inch smaller than he is . Lots driftwood and plants .

I was going to add just 1 female but read here male would harrass her to much .

Would 2 females long term do okay together, Is it possible if male pairs up with one female they would kill single female?

Thank you

They should be fine. Sunfish don't pair up like cichlids- the male forms a nest and courts as many females as he can.

Thanks. didnt know that . Should be fine than.

Problem with an outside pond is that unlike a glass tank you cant see details .

In time I might bring them inside and set up a 60 breeder tank as only way to enjoy spawning, colors, etc though imagine outside better chance of spawning.

Dollars are actually easy to spawn inside. You can also get better fry yield inside where you can see what's going on.

Yes inside you see whats going on . Its actually nicer keeping them inside as you see fish up close but they do great here all yr long outside and thought things like mosquitos, rains would help. .

I have spawned cory cats outside .When lived in NY could not and plecos Thus assumed with sunfish outside would be best option.

The sunfish is kept here by side of house . It does get green algae on side but it gets 50% water change in course of 7 days even more during rainy season.

You know what, that hair algae is good stuff actually. I don't know why everyone's so afraid of it. :D

Nice little pond!

Thanks. I have about 10 little "ponds" . 40 gallon to 120 gallon "ponds" :screwy:

I dont like hair algae but unless have lots of floating plants it happens.

This is my cory cat pond . Started with 4 adults 2 yrs ago recently had up to 50 but gave 40 away.

This water you can drink (well maybe not lol) as its so clear not a drop of algae and no filter only weekly water change

They all over flow close to daily in rainy season never lost a single fish . Think the fish adults and fry stay "deep" when it rains as dont want to get wet :screwy:.

fish keeping outside is very easy but again your right nothing beats a tank as far as looking at whats going on.

Is that dwarf papyrus in the background, growing outside all happy? How much would you charge for an offshoot of that stuff?

Yes its dwarf papyrus. One stem from a canal shore year ago has given me bushes of it
I wont charge you a penny for it. I have sent lots of things to MFK folks including albino Everglades pythons. .

Lol kidding about that. I have never seen a python :(.

PM me and by Thu the latest I will send it to you its an amazing plant even as a floater in ponds .
