Aloha fellow MFK,

I am debating on performing Gill Curl Surgery on my Silver. He only has it on one side but I know eventually the other side will curl.
I wanted to ask you guys what are the supplies I need to perform the surgery efficiently.

I especially need info on anesthetization and the procedure of administering the anesthetization.

Mahalo in advance!!!

Snakehead researchers use clove oil, but some people also use it to euthanize fish, so watch your ratios. Personally if it's not hurting the fish, I would leave it alone.

How do you know the other side is going to curl? You're better off doing more water changes and keeping the water clean than cutting off its gill plates..

Sometimes only one side will curl, if it doesn't bother him it would be better left alone unless he is still very small. Snipping it off a grown fish could shock him pretty hard.

Thanks for the advice and tips guys!!! I have decided to try simple changes like adding a power head for more water flow and taking out some driftwood to give him more space. Lets see if that works. I will keep you guys updated!!
Thanks again!

UPDATE:

So went to Petco and bought a power head and what do you know....it worked!!! Gill curl cured!!!! SUPER STOKED!!!!:headbang2

Nice. Just keep the water quality pristine and you should never see that problem come up again.
