Going on a Mission trip to Ecuador with my church and some of my friends, for the most part we will be working in the Barrio constructing homes and living with familys for a week and then will stay at a hotel before reacclimating to society as they call it, i was thinking about trying to collect something during this time frame 2 or 3 days.
Would it be worth it? Could i bring fish back in my bags i check in, in small containers or something?

You'll need an importing license, they're only 100$. I'm getting one for some trips planned this summer. I'd say it's definitely worth it, you can make the money back by selling some fish here and keep the others for your enjoyment.

You'd not only need the importing permits to get the fish into the US you'll also need exporting permits to get them out of Ecuador.

If you could manage some exCichlasoma ornatum you'd make a pretty penny (Río Durango, northwestern Ecuador (Pacific slope)).

Seeing as "barrio" just means neighborhood in Spanish, can you be a bit more specific as to where you're going?

Get some kordon breather bags, only bring back small fish i.e. less than 2", pack them in your suit case mixed in with your clothes, check the bag and don't worry about permits. Ken

Yea thats what i was thinking Ken, bringing back real small fish, and hope some make the trip
ill have to look into the Kordon breather bags never heard of them before
