I'm going to order a 220g tank (6'X2.5'X2'). It will be sitting next to my office table.

I've figured that the stand height should be around 28", same as my desk.

The think is I don't like the bulky aquarium hoods. Ideally I would have no hood at all and just the lighting directed to it from the wall. I need the tank top to be just the glass as much as possible. But it is not going to work since I have an Aro in the tank.
so I'm thinking of using "Suction Cups" and have a nylon mesh or a transparent plastic board attached to it. This will lie on almost flat on the tank top level, with the suction cups attached to the bracings of the tank. I'll have suction cups may be every 6".

What do you guys think? Please advice.

Are you worried the Aro will jump out? I have Glass lids on my 220....Their pretty heavy..don't think an Aro would go thru them...

+1 on the glass lids. They also help with water evap.

I like the idea of sliding glass lids and having a hanging light so you don't have to keep taking the light off to do maintenance, what a PITA.

Aha, "Sliding" glass lids. That is the key word. I've been wondering how this glass lid thing is going to be fixed. Thanks a million man. Now I got it.:headbang2

I found a diy sliding lid page that uses plastic corner molding which has two levels for top and bottom, just cut and insert glass. This is based on cutting your own glass though. For me I want horizontal sliding lids, so I would have to have glass custom made and cut. The lids I have now could still work, they would just push forward and back instead of side to side.

QFT

I would love to hang my light due to this very reason, but wife won't go for it, being the tank is in the kitchen lol

I once thought about using one of those free standing regular living room light. Not sure if it's appropriate with plants or not. Adding two of them on each side of the tank would provide enough light to see I think.
