well my wife has been hounding me to do a salt water my 14month old some fell inlove with the " nemo " at the lfs so i decided to go for it ok all i have right not is a 48gallon bowfront with a cascade 1500 canister filter can i use it for saltwater ?? what else do i need

wht kind of Protein Skimmer do you reccomend

first of all, i really recommend not using any canister filter with salt. unless you plan to grow tons of algae...
i would recommend running the system with a sump instead. The skimmer depends on the filtration you decide to go with.

the wet dry looks ok (i would remove the bio-balls) but it ios really more than you need. you can get a 20 gallon tank or even a rubbermade tub for your sump and then just get a return pump. if your tank does not have a built in overflow you will need one of those too.

the skimmer you show i have never heard of in my life. with skimmers you will get what you pay for. looc at the aqua c pro series. the urchin (in sump) or remora (HOB) pro would be great. otherwise look at an ASM. you want a skimmer that says it is rated for around 100 gallons.

Cannot agree with him anymore. It is imperative that if you are going to buy a skimmer....buy a good one. ASM, euro-reef, aquac, are all good choices. I also recommend you use RO/DI water as well. Otherwise you WILL have an algae problem. You will be surprised how much money goes into a small tank. Agree on the bioballs as well. They have to go.
