So here is what we have a !60 gallon tall tank by tall I mean 42x24x36. That is 42 inches tall we are running a FX5 pointing the water toward the surface a 300 watt heater set at 29 C 2 Giant Val and 1 nubias on driftwood. We have the water at half r.o. and half tap right now slowly converting to r.o.. The r.o. water is dionized is that good or bad as I could remove that filter if it would be better? Our Discus are 6 German Pigeon Blood and 4 Blue Velvet. No pics yet bit will try and post some. Our hope is to breed them they are about 3 to 4 inches now I honestly believe Discus are the closest fresh water fish to the salt water for color. So will this setup work please let me know all tips are welcome.

Looking forward to pics!!!

NIce looking fish.

You don't need 100% RO in the tank, unless you plan on using some sort of remin product.
A small amount of hardness is needed (about KH 3) to prevent Ph crashes.

One thing you are going to need is a good Dehumidifier. That is a lot of hot water.

X2. I'd stick with 50/50.

Good to know about the hardness and ph issue. Is there any issue with the water being deionized or will running 50/50 solve any problem there?
I don't think we will notice the humidity as the other 114 tanks put off enough of their own. We also have 2 exhaust fans running full time to help with the humidity but the basement is still plenty humid.

What is the pH & hardness of your source water? For domestic discus, RO water is not needed - just clean water with stable parameters. You might need it for wild discus, but not domestics.

The ph of our tap water is 7.5 and is off the scale for hardness.

Domestics tend to adjust to a wide variety of hardness & ph as long as it remains constant. The frequent W/Cs are easier to accomplish if the source water is constant. BTW very nice pics. "T"
