I was wondering what would happen if i kept a gold wolf and a common together in the same tank. would they be able to live together?

doubt it. the golds don't really like their own kind or other fish that look like them. the commons don't like anyone. you could try, as the golds generally stay up top or mid level and commons tend to be ground bound, and you may get lucky for awhile. i just think the common would end up tearing the goldie a new one before too long.

they would fight alot in a big tank they would stay on oposite sides of the tank till night then they would roam the tank and fight more when they bump into each other eventually the common would out grow and kill the gold wolf if they were started at the same size and if they didn't kill each other first Two really aggressive fish almost never have a draw they useually go till death or till one swims off and hides

ok thats a no. i thot it would work bc like ironmunki said one swims top while other just logs it at the bottom... gues not. i plan on trying it and if gets to bad ill split them

for the most part they both stick to the bottom while the gold or the rainbow wolfs are supposed to be more active they do sit alot start them small it could work but theres a huge chance things will go bad

my three golds never stick to the bottom unless they are hiding or hunting. my two rainbows swam every now and then but for the most part stayed on bottom. every common i've ever seen stays about as still as a statue until food hits the water. the only exception i've seen are the commons at lfs near me. he has like 8 to 10 six inch common wolves and 90% of them hover near the top of the tank EVERY time i've been there. i was always tempted to purchase one and bring it home but I know as soon as i got it in my tank it would sink to the bottom never to move until it was hungry. still don't know how he makes them hover like that.

here are a couple pics of those swimming commons i was talking about. they were not active-active like golds but i saw only a few of them on the bottom. the rest were either swimming or hovering mid to top level.

ive seen someone keep reds with commons with no problems.
but i woudnt try it unless you have one gigantic tank.
