Hey guys, today a guy donated a WC 10-11" senegal bichir to me today and comparing his color to my other senegals, he gives off a more "gold" color like my palmas beuttikoferi. His head shape is different from my other senegals as well and was identified as senegalus sp. "Chad". I'm not sure if he's from Chad but he is definitely WC.

here's a pic compared to my 12.5" Senegalus Sp. Nigeria. you can easily see the difference in color. i will try to upload Higher Quality pics when i get the chance.

for now, enjoy :) hes in the back while my sp. nigeria is in the front.

I've had groups of Sens caught at the same source that have turned out different colour.
I wouldn't get caught up on it, Senegalus colors can vary even from the same brood!

Also the color depends on the substrate color. Won't be surprised if that "golden" sen becomes that brown sen's color.

yeah exactly hahahah thats why im not going to worry about where this bichir came from.

yeah thanks for the extra info. This senegal came from a tank with black and red sand just like mine and yet still has the same color. Not all senegals have the same color, just like what TGM said above.

also i said gold-based not golden. there's a difference ;)

yeah hes certainly not the usual olive color is it. nice looking sen. is it quite active in your tank?

the most active bichir in my tank currently. He was in another tank with a 2-3 ft Leichardti and swims with him unafraid. He swims like an arowana atm ahaha since i was told he was with the lei since they were both very young and he even eats at the top. Though now im getting him to eat massivores

heres some better pics. One of the pics shows my beuttikoferi's tail. You can see the base-color of the senegal being a bit lighter than my beuttikoferi, giving him a gold-yellow base.

hope you guys enjoy :)
