I just got this cute lil fella couple days ago...he's still a baby around 2 1/2-3 inches..he is tanked with a baby tire track eel(which are like best friends..always sleep together, swim around together) and a baby silver arowana..around 3 1/2 inches..they all get along in a 55 gallon but the gold dat hasn't been eating..i tried feeding bloodworms and small cichlid pellets but no luck...any tips?

are you feeding live, freeze dried, or frozen blood worms? not all dats will take dry food right off the bat. you shouldnt have any problems feeding live for a while then training him to eat dry once you know he is eating in your tank

give it a good feed of ghost shrimp then starve it and feed what you want it to eat prawn is the best most tigers eat that

feed ghost shrimp once per week so you know hes getting some kind of food then just offer the prawn on the other days for a few weeks

EAT OR DIE thats the rules i have and i have never had a fish die :D

Dats do love ghost shrimp, if he doesnt eat that then look at other issues .Try to find out what he was raised on.

I always use frozen bloodworms for small dats. If he wont take it then use the opae shrimps to get him liking the taste of shrimp so he might be willing to take freeze dried or frozen

To change their diet to pellet you must starve them for quite a time. These little fellas can go up to a month or more with out food. they will sooner realize that its food.

Also, I reccomend getting large danois or other fish that accept any type of food close to your datnoid size that isnt aggressive to help train the datnoid into accepting bloodworms/pellets. If the datnoids see the danois or other fish eating bloodwroms/pellets they will also try to mimic the behavior.

I agree with T1ARKMANN. I have an NGT that hasn't eaten in 4 months and is still not eating. It sure is skinny but oh well. I have another NGT which I bought at the same time as the one I mentioned and it is already eating frozen bloodworms after 3.5 months.
