my lfs has a gold diamond piranha its about 4'-maybe 5'. what is the growth rate on these guys? lfs is selling it for $129 is that a good deal?

ehhh not really a great deal if you ask me. Around here I see them for 60 or so. they grow kinda slow, not nearly as fast as a red.

4'????
I'd pay for that!

Depends on how difficult it is to obtain a rhombues in your area. That determines how much the price tag should be. If he's a nice fish and they don't come often in your location who cares what the price is....as long as your willing.
If you live in NJ, thats far too expensive. Because Rhoms are a dime a dozen in NJ (ok maybe not exactly a dime a dozen lol, but they're all over the place).
I guarantee you its going to be a little more difficult to obtain a rhom from a lfs in Colorado and the price tag will be quite a bit more then NJ....possibly even X3.

Its up to you. $150 can ship you a nice juvi Rhombeus this spring. $90 for shipping (location depending) and somewhere around $60 for 6" Rhombeus collected from Peru.
$125 for a 4" GDR which will hit 6" in 4 or 5 months possibly.

Captive rhoms grow to 6" quickly and slow down considerably after. Do not expect more then 10" - 12" total length for a captive rhom.

I just noticed that your store labels this as a "gold diamond piranha". You should deffinatly get a picture to verify that it is a Rhom and not a Maculatus.

I think that's the only good thing about NJ so far :naughty:
