I have a friend who owns a 55 gallon arcylic tank. He has 10 goldfish with a undergravel filter only. Do you feel this is appropriate? I have read in plenty of articles that state a hang on mechanical filter is the best for goldfish.
Undergravels suck because they trap everything under the gravel. He should make it a reverse under gravel filter and have some kind of hang on or canister filter. AND get a bigger tank. once had 3 common 1 comet in a 55 gallon, all 6"+ and that was to much.
yeah he needs more filtration. The UGF will do bio, but probably not enough for 10 goldfish, which can get 12 inches or more (if they aren't deformed fancy ones) So adding a HOB would be good.
