We got a pieasant surprize our gold gourami's had free swimming fry in with them. I had read up on how to spawn gouram's and the only thing we had done right was have the females seperate. We had them in a 30g long tank and I wanted to get a male so last week we bought what we hoped was a male. Well it must of been one. So is there any secrets to raising the fry now we took the females out so it is only male and fry. The tank is covered with duckweed on top so they should have infusorium to eat should we also give them some spiralina powder or some fry protien powder. Any help will be great. At least now my plan to breed gouramis came true it just was'nt the giant gouramis.

How old do the fry have to be to become easly visible I think ours are around 5 days old now but not really sure as we never saw a nest or anything.

I've bred gold gouramis twice and bred opaline with gold. They are very easy to breed. After 2-3 weeks you will see them free swimming. Petco had some powdered fry food by hikari that works really well after they eat the eggs. It takes about 2 months before you will see any color. After the eggs have been fertilized and set in a good bubble nest both parents should be removed. I did it for practice as I will be breeding discus and trying to breed several kinds of pleco in a year (which will be very difficult). So the easy part is breeding the gouramis, the hard part is what to do with 500-1000 fry.

We only appear to have maybe 100 some odd fry but as I said had no idea they had even bred. How do you remove the parents without getting all the fry. We have a riend who is breeding plecos and he was told they need really soft water.
