Hello everyone,
I'm sure that a lot of you didn't even know there where Gold Jack Dempsey's.:eek:
To my surprise a lot of LFS's have never even heard of Gold Jack Dempsey's.:help2:
A lot of LFS don't carry Ebjd's (Electric Blue Jack Dempsey's) very often either.
but among their best sellers are the regular Jack Dempsey's.
From what I've read about the Gold Dempsey's is that they where carried in most LFS's for a while,
but because sales weren't as good as projected they just quit carrying them.

Can someone explain to me why this happened & why most LFS's have a problem carrying the very popular Ebjd's?

Thank You

Jill ;)

I cannot answer your question as to why they stopped selling them, maybe a lack of interest or just too hard to breed.

this guy is breeding EBJD and gold JD (sorry if i de-railed the thread)

Hello & It's Ok for you to point liquidlizard thread. He's a friend of mine & we are both breeding EBJD's and Gold JD's and sharing results.
My thread is here. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/f...sey-Project&p=5605763&mode=linear#post5605763
But my thread here isn't about the recessive genes & breeding them. I have another thread open for that.

My thread here is about the Gold Jack Dempsey. I'm curious as to why such a beautiful fish has been shun from the regular marketplace.

Thank You

Jill

The juvenile ones aren't that attractive in my opinion. So unless somebody knows what it is going to look like when it grows up they will probably pass them by for something more colorful. They are really nice when full grown but I think that a lot of people buy fish on impulse.

I've never seen gold jacks in a store. They are pretty readily available online though. I think they have not taken off because the nice thing about a jack is the blue spangling and spots. The gold ones do not have that and just look rather plane. EBJD's are very common in stores. There popularity seems to be dying down a bit though as they have become much cheaper and most stores have them.

I agree with this. I believe that the lack of color is the major reason why Gold JDs are not so popular. I don't find them attractive at all. But everyone has their preferences. A lot of people love the behavior and size of regular JDs but I don't like them much either.

I saw golds in a LFS store, but they were young. I never bought them because they looked plane compared to regular JDs, but I haven't seen many adult gold JDs.
Jillfishie-I like your JD.

Thank you all for your reply's.
In my opinion they are (Gold Jack Dempsey's) are beautiful.
I would think of them as the Albino or Lutino version of the Jack Dempsey.
A lot of other fish have albino versions and cost more than their original counterpart, so why is this not the same?
