15 years ago, or more, I used to find gold jags in stores - they were solid bronze, or gold in color - never seen them since - anyone know what happened to them? I am not talking about normal jags that have a yellowish or goldish sheen - I'm talking about the ones that start out solid bronze. Anyone else know what I'm talking about?

No one wanted them back then because of the same reason, they were everywhere. Guess they vanished because of their popularity.

In the late 80s I had a pair of managuense that spawned regularly. From each spawn there would be a small percentage of fry that would be solid yellow/bronze, no black markings at all.
For me, they were uninteresting because without markings they were a generic Parachromis, hard to determine what species it was. I took some to auctions, and also found no interest, so I culled them.
I believe this to be a normal evolutionary occurrence, just as in each spawn there were also some very dark, almost totally black fry.
These standouts seemed to be the first cannibalized by their normally colored brothers and sisters.

I had a big male about 2yrs ago that was like the old school ones.
But, I haven't seen any in a loong time, other than him.
I do see some listed/labeled as golds. But, they aren't the same as I used to see.

Just to clarify, no, they are not "old school" ones - They ARE like that gold one pictured. (NOT Spike's fish - that is just a normal Jag, with gold shading.)
The second fish - that's it. What ever happened to those? They were sold at most local stores.
Duane - they are a morph of managuense, and people knew them by that name. Just like you have gold jack dempseys - no question about species.
Does anybody have any?

OK, No that's not like the one I had.

The one Skooby posted looks more like a Xanthic
