A couple months ago I posted a thread about my findings of some gold managuense. Just a quick update! I did some poking around and a few emails and I came to the conclusion that these could be the only ones in North America. Well they have grown considerably and a pair spawned 3 days ago. I've attached a photo of the parents guarding the little zygotes.

absolutely gorgeous fish!!

Sure will! But I'd love to trade for some nice umbees or some really nice Costa Rican Dovii that are really gold and not blue. Being from Canada it might be tricky to get em across the border but I'll find a way.

Cool looking color morph.

IMO the chances of 3 of these fish in this color morph showing up in one Petsmart in Burlington ON, and no where else in North America would be slim to none. The entire chain purchases their fish from the same suppliers so if 3 fish showed up in Burlington, I suspect others showed up at other Petsmart locations in ON & possibly elsewhere.

I'm not 100% positive if Petsmart Canada purchases all of their fish from the same supplier as in the USA, but in the states Petsmarts main source for live fish is Segrest Farms - who do happen to have the gold morphed managuense listed in their catalog. It states "rarely available" but it is listed in various sizes. They also have a managuense hybrid listed, called the "Fire Jaguar", whatever the hell that is?

And not to be debbie downer, but personally I would never trust the lineage of any fish coming from Petsmart, especially considering the fact that most if not all of their fish are sourced from a supplier that deals in numerous hybrid cichlid strains, apparently including managuense. (fire jags)
