I bought this as a "gold morph" jaguar cichlid. Two questions. Do I have a male or female? What causes a jaguar to be a "gold morph"?

I don’t know what gender it is. But what causes color morphs usually, is a genetic mutation. A random glitch in changing the DNA, making a change in the appearance of the animal(different sized bone, adding a new bone, changing color, etc), since it’s possible the animal will fare better with a change. The morph probably happened when someone had a breeding pair and one of the fry was “gold,” grew it up and paired it with another jaguar to start line breeding it for profit and that’s when it came into the hobby.
